Five reasons students keep showing up:
Been there, done that: I got through high school and university with undiagnosed autism and ADHD. Did it all without a clue what would work. (I cried a lot). I've spent the last ten years learning what makes neurodivergent brains light up. I know what it's like to feel different, to learn differently, and to experience the world unlike other people (including your parents!)
It's about min/maxing: That means minimising how much stress study creates for you and maximising the value you get from the work you do. You could write 100 practice essays, but why bother if you don't know why you're getting better? Let's focus on where you can get the most value out of a little work.
My approach works with elite professionals, too: I've spent the last decade working with professional performers to help them give their very best when under pressure. We're talking about some of the world's best musicians, dancers, and actors performing in front of thousands of people. I know what kills anxiety and stress, and how to get ready to give 100% when it really matters.
I'm not a teacher - I'm a facilitator: Your teacher wants to cram knowledge into your brain. I'm here to help you use it. You're already at school for five days a week, so let's change the game and focus on making the most of that time, not repeating it again.
Finally, I've got your back: It's not just about "doing more work." There are really good reasons why school might be hard for you. I'm here to support you to find a path that fits with everything else that is going on for you and is important to you. Maybe you are an elite athlete or musicians. Maybe your disability gets in the way of life. Maybe your mental health isn't great right now. Whatever is going on for you, we'll work together to make a plan for your study that fits your life.
We meet every week for 50 minutes
Somewhere quiet and public, like your local library, or at your home if that's better. We can even go to a park!
You bring yourself, the textbooks you need for your session
I bring some fidget tools, stationery, and some tools to help us work smarter instead of harder.
You get distracted at home or school
You need to hit the 'reset switch' and change environments to learn.
We meet every week for 50 minutes
We meet over the computer: You can stay at home.
Be comfortable! Wear your pyjamas, bring your cat or a snack - whatever makes you comfortable!
You have lots of anxiety
You need frequent breaks because of sensory overload, fatigue, or anxiety.
Getting out of the house would use too much energy.
That's OK! I get it. School can suck - why put more time into something you hate?
I'll make you a deal: Let's meet up for just one session. We can have a chat about anything you want (I love learning about people's special interests). We don't have to do any work. I'll bring lots of fidgets and cool stuff. We hang out for half an hour. If you don't want to meet up again after that, that's OK! I'll tell your parents it didn't work out.
It can make school easier: Everybody needs some help sometime. If you feel like you're stuck in a hole at school, I'm not here to tell you how to get out - I'll jump in with you and we will dig together. We're going to work together so you can feel more confident in class.
You might be less stressed or worried: Struggling with something is stressful. How would it feel if you could sit down and know you could handle this exam or assessment? Do you think you would procrastinate as much if you
It can create opportunities: Not everybody wants to go to university, but we all have a dream. Do you want to be a hit YouTuber? Let's find ways to help you communicate and reach those subscribers. Gunning for a Brownlow Medal? We'll train like athetes: Go hard and fast to score goals in the classroom so you can spend more time on the field.
